Thank You 2019!
Wow! What an incredible first full year for When SHE Happens. We couldn’t be more excited about all of the fun and educational events that you all participated in this year. We learned so much about our city, about your businesses, and about each other. 2020 has some exciting things on the horizon and we can’t wait to share them with you. For now, let’s reflect on some of the amazing times had throughout 2019.
Sushi Making at JPAN UTC
Chef Daniel from JPAN was a gracious host will be teaching us how to make some of our favorite sushi rolls and show us how each step is crucial to the success of the finished product.
The Westin Happy Hour
This was an amazing event where you could feel the woman empowerment vibe in the air. Great cocktails and stunning views while a large group of women introduced themselves to the group and learned about each others’ business. Many connections that lasted through the year were made this night.
Guided Meditation with Shana Rosenthal from Four Pillars Yoga Studio
Love was all around us on this Valentine’s Day. Shana Rosenthal guided us through a beautiful meditation surrounded by candlelight, aromatherapy and energy crystals at Four Pillars Yoga Studio, followed by a lunch at Il Conte.
Dr. Emily Hall with Mote Marine
Featuring Dr. Emily R. Hall, Staff Scientist, Manager of the Ocean Acidification Program AND the Chemical and Physical Ecology Program. Everyone left this lunch blown away by all of the useful and in-depth information Dr. Hall shared with us regarding our local ecosystem and the effects of ocean acidification on our planet. One of the takeaways was to plant trees as you can. Dr. Hall also highly recommended the documentary Chasing Coral to learn more.
Cassariano Happy Hour
A fun happy hour where we introduced ourselves to each other by playing BINGO! Find someone who was born and raised in Sarasota? Check. Meet someone who has ridden a motorcycle? Double check.
Create U DIY Workshop
Girl power was the theme and the owners of Create U DIY were happy to oblige. We had a creative and interactive networking lunch that included the creation of a themed sign. The owners were so great in making sure we were able to complete lunch and a project all within an hour and a half!
Behind the Scenes with Interior Designer Monica Rissler
Beige, Green, Yellow, Blue. How do you even know where to begin? You start with Monica Rissler Designs of course! With our behind the scenes tour of the Designer showroom, we learned all about the latest spring 2019 trends and received a private tour of the design center that is open to the trade professionals only.
LeBarge Tropical Cruises
We headed for the smooth seas of Sarasota Bay. It wasn’t a three hour tour, but more like three hours of networking fun with fabulous local ladies on the LeBarge! Swaying palm trees, live Jimmy Buffet soundtrack, and the best view on the bay makes the LeBarge one of our favorite Sarasota activities. ⚓️🌞🌴
Your Skin is Your Best Accessory with Michelle Selvaggi from Center for Skin Wellness
We all know that beauty come from within. Thanks to the experts at The Center For Skin Wellness, we also learned that we need to take care of our skin so that we can age like fine wine. Michelle Selvaggi, ARNP-C and their two aestheticians, Monika & Sarah, helped educate us on sunscreen, skin cancer, fillers, neurotoxins and more – oh my!
Endless Summer Happy Hour
99 bottles of…..well you know how it goes and thanks to Mark at Sarasota’s hottest new downtown bar, we were able to experience it for ourselves too. This after work happy hour had us all cheering for fellow member Monica Rissler who created the entire interior design of this great little hotspot.
Melt Your Stress Away with SRQ Acupuncture and Massage with Angie Hynes
Have 90 minutes to reset, relax and rejuvenate? We did. This innovative interactive lunch event had us release our inner tension with some meditation and a sampling of acupuncture performed by Dr. Angela Hynes at SRQ Acupuncture. Ahhh we are still feeling the after effect.
Cocktails and Pirate Sails Happy Hour at Loaded Cannon Distillery
Arrrrrr matey. Me ladies didn’t have to walk the plank but we did surely enjoy tasting the libations at this fabulous distillery in Lakewood Ranch. We learned all about the making of their whiskey’s, vodkas, and more! You can rest assured we all know how to make some pretty good bloody Mary’s and spirits by now.
A Taste of Downtown Sarasota Culinary Tour
Sarasota certainly has so much to offer and we took advantage of the downtown eclectic mix of food, history and scenery. Good thing we were walking after all of the scrumptious food we were introduced to from our fabulous guide Maggie with Key Culinary Tours.
A Night of Connection at Big Frog
Come on baby light my fire. And that’s just what she did. Fellow member, Chrystal “Fireheart” Kubis, introduced us to new methodologies on releasing negative thoughts and energy and awakening the SHE power inside us all. Plus we had the extra bonus of tour another fellow member, Mary Baehr’s business, Big Frog Custom T-shirts and more! We all left inspired by the message of “Leading with Love.”
